Part 7: Adaptability Starts With the Leader
As an improv artist, I know that adaptable teams are shaped by adaptable leaders. We're thinking on our feet, pivoting, listening, and solving problems creatively and openly - as a team!
This feels especially true as AI changes the way many teams think about work.
In the last post, Laura & I talked about clear communication. It's not just about what you say, it's about what you model.
When a leader (or an improv artist!) responds to change with fear, silence, or confusion, people often feel that uncertainty. But when a leader approaches change with curiosity, clarity, and a willingness to learn, they make adaptability feel more possible.
Human-centered leadership means being honest about what is still unfolding while you're helping people stay grounded in what they do know.
Leaders who help people move forward will be the ones who ask better questions, stay open to learning, and create room for people to grow. Yes, and...!
As a result, the way a leader responds to change often becomes the way a team learns to respond, too.
